Communications Technologies, especially wireless communications, has been globally recognized as the major driving force of the current and future information and communications technologies and applications. Emerging wireless technologies such as 3G/4G digital cellular, WiMAX, next-generation WiFi, DAB/DVB and UWB are ushering the 21st century into a second information age. They act as a catalyst to converge consumer electronics, personal computing, and the mobile industry, and would become the host of next-generation products and services worldwide.
Hong Kong, with the backup of the Greater China, which is the world’s largest wireless communications market place as well as the largest mobile phone manufacturing country, has the unique position and advantages in developing key intellectual property rights (IPR), and targeting the largest customer base of the world, supported with the greatest manufacturing capability.
Communications Technologies Group has identified, initiated, and now focuses on four key technology initiatives: Multimode Multifunction System Technologies, Low-power High Spectral-efficiency Radio Access Technologies, Miniaturization Technologies, and Applications/Services Enabling Technology Platform. The Group will provide world-class innovative and competitive wireless technologies for differentiating industrial impacts in Hong Kong, Pear River Delta (PRD), and the Greater China.
By collaborating with local universities and industry groups, and the leverage in global strategic alliances and partnerships, the Group will produce and commercialize leading-edge intellectual properties and disruptive technologies. Through our vital R&D programs, the Group aims to generate significant industrial impacts to the local industry in the short term, as well as to lay the foundation for Hong Kong to become a world-leading R&D center and IPR provider in the global wireless communications community in the long term.
