I have seen many UCD student with a guide dog around campus. How can they get a guide dog? Are they a trainer? What program/class is it that they can do that?

Actual guide dogs are only placed with blind owners. Guide dog trainers are professionals with a college degree and a minimum of three years experience.

What you are seeing are probably puppy raisers.

Here is a list of programs that train guide dogs in the U.S. Find one near you and apply to be a puppy raiser.

But first, if you live in a dorm, rethink the idea. A dorm is not an appropriate place to raise an 8 week old puppy. You'll need some place with a fenced yard and someone to be home with the puppy when he can't be with you. You'll also need permission from your school to have the pup with you on campus. It's not the same as a fully trained guide dog, or even a guide-dog-in-training because you won't be a certified guide dog trainer and you aren't disabled.

It's a lot of work, not just taking him to class.
參考: I'm a service dog trainer.
