Up to now, Quark is the smallest particle known in our universe. This means it is inseparable by today's technology and is the basic building block for atomic particles such as protons, hadrons and neutrons. It exists in six different flavours (types) such as: top, bottom, strange, charm, up and down which are classified by the amount of positive and negative charges they carry. Only bombarding experiments can give us clues about their existence since quarks are actually held together by strong (nuclear, short range) forces, the strongest force known in the universe. In fact, the farther they come apart, the stronger this force will exert to bind them together again.
Points to ponder:
It's due to this strong (nuclear) force that forms atoms then onto all substances in the universe. Without it, countless quarks just float around in the immense space of the universe. Nothing whatsoever, not even us, can exist at all.
