6w + 2 = 4w - 8
3w + 1 = 2w - 4
w = - 5

Answer: w = - 5

Proof:
6(- 5) + 2 = 4(- 5) - 8
- 30 + 2 = - 20 - 8
- 28 = - 28

6w + 2 = 4w - 8
6w - 4w = -2 - 8
2w = -10
w = -10/2
w = -5

6w-4w=-2-8
2w=-10
w=-10/2=-5

6w + 2 = 4w - 8
6w - 4w = - 8 - 2
2w = - 10
w = - 5.

6w+2=4w-8

6w+2+8=4w-8+8 Add 8 to both sides, to eliminate the 8 on the right hand side. you add 8, because it is being taken away.

we now get 6w+10=4w

6w-4w+10=4w-4w take 4w to both sides to eliminate 4w. it is taken because it is added, even though there is no + sign.

we now get 2w+10=0

2w+10-10=0-10 take 10 from both sides to move it to the right hand side.

we now get 2w=-10

2w/2=-10/2 divide both sides by 2, to eliminate the 2 on the left hand side.

we now get w=-5

hope this helped

Subtract 4w and 2 from both sides of the equation and then divide both sides by 2.

1). 6w + 2 = 4w - 8

2). 2w + 2 = -8

3). 2w = -10

4). w = -5

6w + 2 = 4w - 8
==>

Put all w's together:

6w - 4w = -8 - 2

==>

2w = -10

or w = -10 / 2 = -5, which is the answer.

move 4w over across the = sign switching its sign so it becomes negative.. negative 4w+6w is 2W so you have 2w+2=-8

do the same with the two, which gives you -10. then you have 2w=-10 then divide it al by 2, so w=-5

10 pts please :P

Move the variable terms to one side, and move the non- variable terms to the other side.
In this case, subtract 4w from both sides and subtract 2 from both sides to get
2w=-10
divide by 2 to get
w=-5
