1) Find the value of the constant a.
ax + 2y - 1 = 0
2y = - ax + 1
y = (- a/2)x + 1/2
the slop of L1 = -a/2 = -2
a = 4
2)If L2 is parallel to L1 and passes through (0, -1), find the equation of L2.
The slope of L2 = L1 = - 2
The equation of L2 is :
[y - (-1)] / (x - 0) = - 2
y + 1 = - 2x
2x + y + 1 = 0
