It's just a variable.

Like "x" except it's "u"

Doesn't really change anything.

Here's how you solve it (step by step)

Step 1: Re-order the equation
8u = 3u + 35
-3u -3u > subtract 3u from one side, and then the other because whatever you do to one side you do to the other.

Step 2:
Now it will be 3u-3u, but it cancels eachother out because 3u-3u = 0
Now you're left with:
8u - 3u = 35

Step 3: Simple subtraction.
Subtract 3u from 8u, which is 5 because well, 8-3 = 5
So it will now be:
5u = 35

Step 4: Now because you want to get "u" by it's self, you divide 5 from 5u. But again, whatever you do to one side you do to the other.
So it will be:
5u/5 = 35/5
so once you divide 5 out of 5 it will be just "u" and 35/5 = 7
so your answer will be U = 7

And there you have it.

The variable, and it's equal to 7.

You subtract 3u from both sides so 5u=35 then divide 35/5. That gives you 7.

8u = 3u + 35
8u - 3u = 35
5u = 35
u = 35/5
u = 7

u = 7

Here are the steps:

8u = 3u + 35
-3u -3u
5u = 35
/5 /5
u = 7

Take 3u from both side:

5u=35

Divide by 5:

u=7
