A garden sprinkler has 150 small holes each 2mm^2 in area. If water is supplied at the rate of 3x10^-3 m^3/s, what is the average velocity of the spray.

In each small hole, the rate of water flow = (3 X 10-3)/150 = 2 X 10-5 m3s-1Cross-section area = 2 mm2 = 2 X 10-6 m2
Therefore, the average velocity of the spray
= rate of water flow / cross-section area
= 10 ms-1
