Poll: Lincecum or Carpenter for NL Cy Young?

Carpenter, 3 more wins in less starts, E.R.A. is about 0.30 lower.

Lets see who has better stats. 12 stats, 6 won by Carpenter, 6 by Lincecum.

Now according to fan graphs, Carpenter is 2.80 clutch while Lincecum is only 0.12
It also says that Carpenter's BABIP** is .267 while Lincecum's is .298
What does that mean? It means Carpenter can get outs wiyhout having to use strikeouts. Because of that, he only throws 3.55 pitches on each PA. How does this affect Timmy? If, a given day, his stuff isn't stellar, he is not gonna be able to get the needed outs.

If it came down to me, I would choose Carpenter because much of his stats are better than Tim Lincecum's, not only this year but the year BEFORE, the year when Lincecum easily won the Cy Young.

According to ESPN, Carpenter and Lincecum have almost the exact Run Support; 5.78 Runs per game for Carpenter and 5.75 for Lincecum. Carpenter has the better ERA, therefore I vote for Carpenter

To be brutally honest, it can go EITHER way. Lincecum's offense has, yes, cost him a lot of wins. His ERA/K's/WHIP/BAA are all stellar. So are Carpenter's. How can any one say that Lincecum has helped put the Giants where they are without saying Carpenter has put the Cardinals where they are? And the people that continually say "Matt Holliday has won Carpenter all those games because he has boosted the offense". Matt Holliday hasn't been a Cardinal all year and the Cardinals have taken off IN THE SECOND HALF. Carpenter has one 10 games in a row, and his ERA is below Linecum's, albeit less innings pitched.

Carpenter:
16-3; 2.16 ERA; 166.2 IP; 30 BB; 129 K; .219 BAA; .97 WHIP

Lincecum:
13-5; 2.34 ERA: 200.1 IP; 55 BB; 233 K; .207 BAA; 1.02 WHIP

Allow me to demonstrate something:

Tom Glavine - the most he ever struck out in a single season was 192 in 1991. and he won 2 Cy Youngs. One of those Cy Youngs? 1991

Ks ARE important --- but not as important as people might think. WHIP and ERA are of the utmost importance.

Also, it does not matter who gets into the postseason. MLB voting is complete before the postseason.

So, all in all, it could go etiher way.

Carpenter, but if San Fran gets in the Playoffs Lincecum. I don't think you could go wrong with either guy though.

Lincecum. Carpenter has a great record because he plays for the Cardinals. Look at all the new decisions and losses Lincecum has. Those aren't there because he pitched poorly, but because his offense is anemic. Carpenter has Pujols and Holliday and the rest of the line-up. Lincecum has a Panda. That's it...
Lincecum deserves it because he has pitched great and has been a major part of the Giants' success. At a young age he has put an entire team on his shoulders. He is finally starting to get some help. Cain is pitching great as he always does, but Sanchez and Zito and now Penny are pitching really well. Pablo and Sanchez are great offensive threats. And Uribe's playing good ball right now, but it still doesn't equal Pujols and the Cards. If Lincecum had a good offense, he'd be a 20 game winner (minimum).

Probably Carpenter right now. He's got the better ERA and WHIP. Plus, Lincecum won last year, so they'll probably give it to another deserving pitcher this year.
