Hello everyone, I am a Form 6 student from local school, or u may say I am from a well-knowned top school in Hong Kong. Actually I am planning to go to USA for university, so i am really very confused. For instant, which curriculum should I choose? IB or HKALE? And what exactly is IB syllabus? For example the requirement or marking scheme/standard (cause somehow I heard people saying that IB include impression marks from teachers). Also people keep on saying that its really hard to acheive high marks in IB (like >38).
Thanks

PS: 中文或者英文的回答也可以 (both chinese and english reply are acceptable=])

Going to community college is one way but since you are already in form 6, there's no point not to go directly into universities, unless your academic record is very very bad.

Take US as an example, you do not need to enroll into IB. The traditional curriculum is good enough. So save your money for your college education in US.

You can enroll into US universities after finishing Form 6, skipping the A-level examination. What you can do is:

1. Decide what you want to study, what major you like.

2. Select 3 to 4 schools in US. You should consider the style, location, climate... There are a lot of information on the Internet and you may also want to check it out from IIE (Institute of International Education in Sheung Wan, accross the street from Wing On).

3. Take TOEFL and SAT as soon as possible so that you can re-take if the scores are not good.

4. Apply your chosen schools on line. Most good schools have an application deadline in January.

ok, first thing first, it really depends on your usual study habits. I am doing IB diploma now, and personally I think it's much easier than A-level. However, in order to do IB, you must be really good at english.(i.e you are in an english secondary will be awesome:) And if you want to do IB diploma, you are going to have to take two languages which should be your best languages, for instance, I took Eng and Chi(second language), then theres MATH, and i'm not joking, but IB math's a piece of cake, it's so freaking easy:) i was really bad at math, when i was in F.3(btw, i'm f5 now, but in international skol, so that's grade 11) but now, maths' so easy for me, we are just doing the same shit over and over again:D then, you'll only need to chose one social studies such as Geo, History, Econ, Business, Pyschology etc. lastly is your extra subject which can be either a science or art or social studies. I think the main thing of IB is that there will be an extended essay(EE) and service hours(CAS). In order to get the IB diploma, you must have everything done including EE and CAS. Also, 7 is the highest grade that you can get (if u get 7 for all six subjects and EE n CAS, you get a full mark of 45, which is actually pretty hard:) and you should at least get a 39 then you can go to ANY college you like. I'm not kidding, there's this guy who got 43 and he went to HARVARD which is a damn gd skol:D getting above 35 is actually not that hard, but you really should decide now cuz you are F.6 now so you'll be two years later than the others to start IB. hope it helps:D

o wait, you can also chose 3 subjects to study in Highe level(which is of more depth apparently) and 3 standard level(which is easier:) sorry that i missed that:P

Why don't I tell you this - that you don't have to do either one?
If you are willing to spend some decent time at community colleges (with the benefit of easier admission, cheaper tuition, and higher chance in transferring to your dream university), you are good to go.
What you need is a community college and TOEFL result.
