6x - 20 = 2 all items are divisible by 2
3x - 10 = 1
3x = 11
x = 11/3

Answer: x = 11/3 or 3 2/3

Proof:
6(11/3) - 20 = 2
66/3 - 20 = 2
22 - 20 = 2

6x = 22
3x = 11
x = 11/3

6x - 20 = 2
6x = 2 + 20
x = 22/6
x = 11/3

6x - 20 = 2
6x = 22
x = 22/6 or 3 2/3.

add 20 to both sides 6x-20+20 = 2+20
6x = 22

Now divide both sides by 6 x * 6/6 = 22/6
x = 11/3 or 3.667

Your aim is to find 'x', which means you need to get x on its own...

since there are 2 sides to the equation, you can move one side of the equation to the other side to get x on its own...

so it goes like this....
6x - 20 = 2
if you want to get rid of the 20 on one side, you need to do the opposite operation to the other side....
so you would add 20 to both sides.
6x = 22
now, it means, 6 times x = 22....so that means if you want to get x on its own, you need to do the reverse of times, which is divide....divide both sides
so that is x = 22 divided by 6

which can be simplified when you have 2 as a factor..
so x = 22/6 = which also equals 11/3 = as a mixed number 3 and 2 thirds (2/3)

6x-20=2
=6x=2+20 Isolate the x
6x/6=22/6
x=3.66 or 4
x=4

first you want to combine like terms, so you add 20 to both sides (by doing this the 20 and -20 on the left side cancel out). this gets you 6x=22

now you simply divide 22 by 6 to get the x value, which is 3.67

6x-20=2
+20 to both sides
6x=22
divide by six to get x by itself
x=22/6=11/3

6x = 22 (add 20 to both sides)
x = 11/3 (divide by 6 on both sides)
