it's easy (: you just have to replace the x with -1
and you'll get f(-1) = 3+(-1)^2/-1-1
and then you have f(-1) = 3+1/-2
that leads to f(-1) = 4/-2 which is -2
and there you have it (:
hope i helped (:

f(x) = (3 + x^2)/(x - 1) (when x = -1)

Substitute -1 for x.
f(-1) = [3 + (-1)^2]/(-1 - 1)
f(-1) = 4/(-2)
f(-1) = -2

Presentation is such that question is open to misinterpretation.

AS GIVEN it MUST be read as :-

f ( x ) = 3 + (x^2/x) - 1 but I wouldn`t mind betting that this is not what you mean.

Have then to try and GUESS what you mean :-

Could it be :-

f ( x) = ( 3 + x^2 ) / ( x - 1 ) ???????????

f ( - 1 ) = 4 / (- 2 )

f ( - 1 ) = - 2

Take care with presentation of questions.

f(-1) = [3 + (-1)^2]/(-1)-1 = 4/-2 = -2

Remember that (-1)^2 = +1

f(-1)= (3+(-1)^2) / (-1)-1
=(3+1) / -2
=4/-2
= -4/2
=-2
solved

you would have put (-1)^2 as -1 ..its wrong... always squares are positive cuz negative *negative is positive i.e (-1)*(-1)=1

f(-1) = (3 + (-1)^2)/ (-1)-1
f(-1) = 3+1/-2 negative one squared is POSITIVE 1!!!
f(-1) = 4/-2
f(-1) = -2!!!
