Get a dog from a rescue would be the best. You'll probably get an adult dog that way.

Failing that, see if you can get a mixed-breed from a shelter.

Failing that, find a local breeder, one where you can go and meet your perspective puppy's parents.

Do not buy one from a pet shop, as you are likely to be supporting a "puppy mill", and will have a puppy from an unhealthy mother, kept in poor conditions.

Go to your local pound because if you go to a puppy mill or a pet store they may show signs of aggression.

I'd say check your local rescues and shelters. Sometimes there are places like Cocker Spaniel rescue centers. They have them for Pit Bulls, Collies, Grey Hounds etc. I bet you could find a great new friend @ a local shelter or rescue.

Just check newspapers, they have sections where people put listings of things to be sold, such as animals. There's usually a little description about them, such as if they're up to date with their shots and what nots. Or check the internet about people around that are selling dongs. Just do NOT, I repeat, do NOT go to a pet store. I got my dog there when I was in 8th grade, and I've done some research and found that the majority of those dogs are from puppy mills. (Most known place for puppy mills is Missouri, which is where he's from.) And in puppy mills, they over breed the female dogs, it's horrible. And most of the time, the dogs at pet stores develop health problems down the line. Just take your time, check the section or do reseach on the internet. Get to know the people selling the dogs, make sure they're in a healthy looking enviroment and look healthy themselves.

Dogs do not "belong" to one person in the family, they belong to everyone. If they do not enjoy being with you or if they gravitate towards a certain family member, that is because YOU do nothing to care for them. YOU are not their pack leader.

Which means any dog you get will do the same thing.

Try your local shelter if you have no requirements (such as non-shedding, low energy, etc.)
