I know the answer, I know how I got the answer, but for the life of me I cannot give you a good explanation of how to figure it.
You do it by dividing the 9900 by three = 3300. Divide the number by the bottom number of the fraction (it is called the denominator). Then if you want to find something else that the 1/3 or 1/2 or 1/4 ... if the top number (the numerator) is say 2...you multiply that first answer by the top number.
9900 divided by 1/3 = 3300. But 9900 divided by 2/3? Well, you divide 9900 by 3 and get 3300...then you multiply that by 2 and get 6600.
What you are doing is breaking that big number down into thirds or fourths or whatever.
3/9ths of 9900? 9900 divided by 9 = 1000 and then 1000 x 3 = 3300.
8/9ths of 9900 is going to be the same thing...9900 divided 9 which = 1100. Multiply the answer by the top number = 8300
3/5ths of 9900 --- 9900 divide by 5 (it is 1980). Mulitply 1980 by the upper number in the fraction (3) and it should equal 5940.
I agree it IS difficult, but as you go on, it will become much easier. I hope I helped give a good response...it took me forever and a day to get this down.
Always divide the number by the bottom number of the fraction and then multiply the answer by the top number of the fraction.
The reason you use the bottom number first is to get the third, the fourth, the half, the eighth, whatever the fraction is. 2/8th of 9900. 9900 divided by 8 (will be 1237 and 1/2 or 1237.5). That is only _1/8th_ - you want 2/8th so you have to multiply that times 2 and get 2475.
Sorry for the rather long answer, but sometimes it takes a bit of teaching to help it sink in. I know is sure did with me!
