This is easy, just by the method of comparing coefficients.

(1 + i)x - (1 - 2i)y = 1 + 4i

(x - y) + (x + 2y)i = 1 + 4i

Comparing real part and imaginary part,

x - y = 1 ... (1)

x + 2y = 4 ... (2)

Solving (1) and (2),

x = 2 , y = 1
