25. The total expenditure $E of holding a camp is composed of a $2,000 booking fee for the campsite and a $60 charge for each participant.
A youth club and a school agree to share the total expenditure of holding the camp in the ratio r : 1, and each student who joins the camp will share equally the expenditure of the school.
i) If 200 students join the camp, each has to pay $14. Find the value of r.
ii) Hence, if the school has to pay $12,000 less than the youth club, find the number of students joining the camp.

(i) E = 2000 + 60n where n is the number of participant
When n = 200, E = 2000 + 60*200 = $14000
Since each student has to pay $14, the total payment for the school is 14 * 200 = $2800
The money paid by the youth club = 14000 – 2800 = $11200
r = 11200/2800 = 4
(ii) Let the money to be paid by the school be $x. The money to be paid by the youth club = 4x.
4x – x = 12000
3x = 12000
x = 4000
E = 2000 + 60n = x + 4x
2000 + 60n = 5*4000
60n = 18000
n = 300
There are 300 students joining the camp
