1. There are crazy sales in shops A and B. For any sofa, shop A offers
a 15% discount with a delivery charge of $250 while shop B offers a 5% discount with a free delivery service. If you want to buy one of
the following sofas, which shop would you prefer to go? Explain your
answer briefly.
sofa(1)-$2000 sofa(2)-$2500 sofa(3)$3000

2. A shop first increases the marked price of a watch, then offers an
attractive discount to customers. If the cost of the watch is $860, write
down two different strategies of increasing the marked price with a
certain percentage and offering a certain discount percentage such
that a 35% profit will be made when the watch is sold.

Sofa(1)-$2000
Shop A cost = 2000 * (1 – 15%) + 250 = $1950
Shop B cost = 2000 * (1 – 5%) = $1900
So buy at shop B
Sofa(2)-$2500
Shop A cost = 2500 * (1 – 15%) + 250 = $2375
Shop B cost = 2500 * (1 – 5%) = $2375
Same price for both shops, choose any one is okay.
Sofa(3)$3000
Shop A cost = 3000 * (1 – 15%) + 250 = $2800
Shop B cost = 3000 * (1 – 5%) = $2850
So buy at shop A

The actual selling price will be $860 * (1 + 35%) = $1161
(1) Set the price to $1290 and offer 10% off
(2) Set the price to $1935 and offer 40% off
