Contrapuntal texture mainly talks about music during Baroque Period which means 'note against note', the combination of independant partsmoving simultaneously resulting ina coherent texture.

Chordal texture mainly talks about music during Romantic and 20th Century periods, where a succession of chords form up the piece of music. eg. Brahms and some of Debussy's Prelude, Gershwin's 'The Man I Love'.
