I've been studying in UK for almost 10 years now, and it will be my interest to applying for the British citizenship. However I'm not too sure what sort of procedures or requirements will be needed for me to do know. Therefore could anyone give me a hand here? I'm currently holding the British National Oversea passport at the moment, will this give me any advantage over this matter?

To qualified for British Citizenship, first you need to permittion to stay in UK, this is called ILR, BNO have no exception, but consider BNO have slight advantage to get Citizenship than other passport from ILR, cos in BNO, you can apply Citizenship once you stay for 5 years with the last year free from immigration control (ie, you have ILR)
There are 4 ways to get British ILR for you

Marry a UK Citizens
Apply though HSMP (Highly Skilled Migration Program)
Apply though employment
Apply thought long stay
1.) Well, not much else to say, you can get married to a UK Citizens and apply ILR, you will get ILR 3 years after you apply spouse visa then stay for 1 year to get citizenship, if you do not hold BNO, you'll need 3 years to get UK Citizenship after ILR
2.) HSMP is a immediate migration program for people who process higher skill, HSMP are a point based system, everything leads to certain points, and you get to migrate to UK once you got 75 points, generally, you can apply HSMP if you earn over 32000 GBP per year or you have a valid MBA degree. After you get ILR from HSMP, you need to stay 1 more year to get citizenship
3.) Apply a working visa and have your employer sponsor you, once you work for them for 5 years, you can apply ILR, then 1 more year to citizenship
4.) Long stay is for people who live in UK for 10 years without break, if you accumlate 10 years residence in UK, then you can apply ILR form Long stay. then 1 more years to UK Citizenship.

What Gary said is incorrect, although BNO can register as British Citizens if lived in UK for 5 years, you still need to be "FREE OF IMMIGRATION CONTROL" that mean you still require to have ILR to be eligible to obtain UK Citizenship

You should have been free from immigration time restrictions during the last12 months of this period. Usually there is a STAMP OR STICKER in your passport sayingthat you have INDEFINITE LEAVE TO ENTER OR REMAIN or no time limit on your stay.

That extract to, if you do not have ILR or free from immigration control, no matter how long you stay in UK, you will not be able to register to UK Citizens

BNO only have 1 advantage over other passport.

That is, after you get ILR, you only need to stay 1 more year in UK then you can register as UK citizens, while if you hold any other passport, the time from ILR to Citizenship is 5 years

And you need to take the life in UK test if you hold other passport

please notice that, not too many people aware you need ILR to register as British Citizens, i've been done that (from BOC -> BC) before, so i knew you require to have ILR to register as UK Citizens

I will suggest you read the following:

http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitecontent/applicationforms/nationality/guide_bota.pdf

It sounds like to me that you are eligible (as the guide does not say that you must work or not).

Also contact the UK Border Agency as well.

2009-08-08 16:17:41 補充:
For the record, you have British nationality already. That's why it will be easier for you to register as a British Citizen. (See here is register not naturalize). You don't need to apply for ILR as far as the law concerns.

Make it simple.

Don't listen to any one of us.

Contact Home Office for detail.

They are the one who can tell you if you are eligible or not.

要在英國全職工作至少六年, 還會經過移民局審批, 當然要交稅單俾移民局過目, 老闆工作證明, 移民局會打俾你老闆工作情況, 所以千萬唔好得罪老闆.
