Prove that 4 cos x cos (120 + x) cos (120 - x) = cos 3x.

L.H.S. 4 cos x cos (120 + x) cos (120 - x)
= 4 cos x * 1/2{ cos[(120+x) + (120-x)] + cos [(120 + x) - (120 - x)] }
= 2 cos x * ( cos 240 + cos 2x)
= 2 cos x * ( cos 2x - 0.5)
= 2 (cos x cos 2x) - cos x
= 2 * 1/2( cos 3x + cos -x) - cos x
= (cos 3x + cos -x) - cos x
= cos 3x + cos x - cos x
= cos 3x
= R.H.S.
Used formula : cosA * cosB = 1/2 [ cos(A+B) + cos(A-B) ]
