When a number is increased by x%(x isn't=0),and then decreased by x%,explain why the result is not equal to the original number.

Let the number be a and increases by x%, it becomes a(1 + x%). It is then decreased by x%, the new value becomes a(1 + x%)(1 - x%)
= a[1 + x% - x% - (x%)^2] = a[1 - (x%)^2] which is not equal to a.
