1st look:
8/(w + 1) = - 3
- 3w - 3 = 8
3w = - 11
w = - 11/3

Answer: w = - 11/3

Proof:
8/(- 11/3 + 1) = - 3
8/(- 11/3 + 3/3) = - 3
8/(- 8/3) = - 3
8(- 3/8) = - 3
- 3 = - 3

2nd look:
8/w + 1 = - 3
8/w = - 4
- 4w = 8
w = - 2

Answer: w = - 2

Proof:
8/- 2 + 1 = - 3
- 4 + 1 = - 3
- 3 = - 3

Your situation has no answer and right this is why: 8-|w-a million|=12 Subtract 8 from the two factors to get -|w-a million|=4 Divide out the - (unfavorable) to get |w-a million|=-4 No answer because of the fact an absolute fee can not be unfavorable. Have a stable day!

AS GIVEN question MUST be read as :-

( 8/w) + 1 = - 3

8/w = - 4

8 = - 4 w

w = - 2

But just in case you actually mean :-

8 / ( w + 1 ) = - 3

8 = - 3 w - 3

3w = - 11

w = - 11 / 3

Your punctuation is not clear.

If you mean 8/(w + 1) = -3 then -8/3 = w + 1

So that w = -8/3 - 1 = -11/3

So that w = -[3 and two-thirds] = -3.6666 rec

w=-2
8/w+1=-3
8/w=-4 you subtract1 from both sides
1/w= -1/2you times 1/8 to both sides
w=-2 you times both sides by 1/2

8/w + 1 = - 3
Multiply by w
8 + w = - 3w
4w = - 8
Divide by 4
w = -8/4
w = - 2 (Answer)

8/w+1=-3 subtract 1
8/w=-4 multiply by w
8=-4w divide by -4
w=-2

plug back in

(8/-2) + 1=-3
-4+1=-3
-3=-3

w = -2
