Because calling us evil is a lazy way of avoiding actually having to debate or even like us.
A lot of theists today though, primarily the young ones do not generalize us in that manner.

I'm a christian and I don't think atheist are evil at all. Some christian do look down on atheist though because they don't believe in God which they shouldn't. we're all equal. It's just the way certain people act.

I don't associate atheism with evil?
2009-07-31 10:05 am
They are afraid of people who think for themselves, instead of the invisible sky dude.

I definitely think that you and everyone who has answered has made HUGE generalizations. Not everyone believes that atheists are evil and you saying that "its quite the opposite", I'm sure there are some evil atheists just as there are other evil people in the world. And to those who say that its Christians that think atheists are evil? Not all Christians think like that and I'm sure some people of other religions do think like that so stop making generalizations that aren't true!

Not the evil, but the Anti-God
2009-07-31 10:05 am
Depends on the person that believes in it, it does not come down to good or evil what it comes down to is faith v. no faith in something.

Pure ignorance on their part. They actually think that if you do not believe in the exact idea that they do that nothing will stop you from being some scum of the earth sodomite. In reality, atheists show more compassion and understanding to others, no matter their lifestyle than any Christian. How many atheists have you even heard of killing in the name of anything?

People in general don't. Just a certain breed of Christian.

It's really a lack of emotional maturity. Seriously.

People who haven't matured emotionally can only define the world in terms of themselves. They think, "If you and I are different, we must be opposites." They can't conceive that there may be options that are not defined in terms of themselves.

So, since this breed of Christians believes themselves to be all good, anyone who's not a Christian (that being their primary self-identifier) must be the opposite: all bad.

It's the perfect example of solipsism.

Solipsism : a theory holding that the self can know nothing but its own modifications and that the self is the only existent thing ; also : extreme egocentrism

Due to it being true, duhhhhhhhhhh.

Anything that denies the existence of God is evil.

well mostly that would probably come from teachings that anything against God or religion is evil of coarse some say that the Bible teaches that yet it doesn't it is Sinful but then so is pride, gluttony, coveting and many other things. Of coarse it does not help having communist countries associated with Atheists for many consider things done by USSR, China and other communist countries to be evil and people tend to carry that over to all Atheists just as they carry things over from RCC to all Christians.

You ask an interesting question. As a Christian my view is that man in his fallen state is a sinner and in need of redemption, which comes
from a belief in Jesus Christ. Now after this conversion there is a imputed righteousness, not earned.
So is this new creature in Christ "less evil" than an atheist? On his own merit no. His righteousness are as filthy rags in the eyes of God.
He has nothing to be smug about, only much to be thankful for.
So I don't see an atheist as a particular breed of evil.
That being said most atheists I have met seemed to be angry. In the work place even though I never mentioned religion they would come up to me and ask if I was "religious". When I would answer yes then the
"fun" would begin, they could not mask there hostility.
In all fairness I did not think they were true atheists, If they were my beliefs would not matter to them. I did meet one person who told me his reasons for being an atheist and he was Very indifferent to what I thought. He is probably the only real atheist I have ever met.

Actually it is not the opposite but they are just unbelievers as we all were. No one comes into the world a Christian so we were all unbelievers at one time. We all have to ask for and accept salvation through the death of Jesus on the cross. So why would we think an atheist is evil. We have atheist in our families.

But the thing is, on Judgment Day, they will share the fate of the evil beings. They will suffer the same fate as Satan and his demons. . With God there is only believers and unbelievers. Unbelievers cannot enter Heaven. They are enemies of God.

good question and it seems it always has been that way
2009-07-31 10:08 am
Through out history Godlessness has been associated with evil among the religious. It will probably never change. It is just the same as other religious groups viewing another religious group as evil because they are just different.
2009-07-31 10:10 am
The definition of evil is lack of God's goodness.

So, Athiests have God's goodness?
2009-07-31 10:10 am
Because Christians spread lies to make atheism less appealing and Christianity more appealing.
2009-07-31 10:09 am
Ignorance.
2009-07-31 10:08 am
I equate evil with disobedience to God, whether it's an atheist or any other unbeliever.
2009-07-31 10:08 am
the answer is quite simple because you try to convert everyone to atheist some atheist do not and that is great but those who do like the christians trying to convert THAT SUCKS!
