I assume that you want to perform the division (2x^2 + 11x - 6) / (x + 6)
Of course, the divisor must be different from 0: x + 6 ≠ 0, thus x ≠ -6.

(2x^2 + 11x - 6) / (x + 6) = (x + 6) (2x - 1) / (x + 6) = 2x - 1

2x^2 + 11x - 6 / x + 6 = 0 => 2x^3 + 11x^2 + 6x - 6 = 0
=> 2x^3 - x^2 + 12x^2 - 6x + 12x - 6 = 0
=> (2x - 1)(x^2 + 6x + 6) = 0
=> x = 1/2, -3 ± √3.

Hi! What you've given is not an equation, so it's really hard to see what you're trying to find. However, I'm assuming you're looking for x having the equation 2x^2 + 11x - 6 / x + 6 = 0.

First, multiply all terms by x:
2x^3 + 11x^2 + 6x - 6 = 0
You can't really factor anything out or use any simple properties to find the zeroes, so I would suggest you to first graph it on a graphing calculator, then using the functions of the calculator to calculate the zeroes. This is what I got:
x = - 4.73205
x = - 1.26785
x = .5

OR

If you're looking to simplify this expression:
(2x^2 + 11x - 6) / (x + 6), then, by factoring the top:
(2x^2 + 11x - 6) / (x + 6) = (2x - 1)(x + 6) / (x + 6) = 2x - 1

Hope that helped!

More information is needed. This is not an equation. Plus, your notation leaves much to guesswork.

If you are to simplify, and the problem, and it looks like this, I will attempt to answer:

2x² + 11x - 6
-------------------
x + 6

(x + 6)(2x - 1)
-------------------- Factor the numerator
x + 6

2x-1 Cancel term (x+6)

If the problem is to find solutions when the equation = 0, then the solution is x=1/2.

(2x^2 + 11x - 6) / (x + 6) = (2x - 1)(x + 6) / (x + 6) = 2x - 1

Thuis canlt be solved as you have not said what this equation equals.

Also, I assume you mean (2x^2 + 11x - 6) / (x + 6)? Without the brackets, it could be misread to mean 2x^2 + 11x - (6/x) + 6

ok, so with simultaneous equations, the objective is to apply the two equations to first discover the cost of one variable, that may then be used to discover the different. For A) you're given 2 equations for y. this suggests that 3x +2 = 3 - 2x (y= y) Now, including 2x to the two facets : 5x +2 = 3 Subtract the two and you get 5x = a million so x = a million/5 Now, substituting this decrease back into the 1st equation you get y = 3(a million/5) +2 so y = 3/5 +2 = 13/5 B) Doing plenty a similar lower back, x +a million = -9x So 10x = -a million x= -a million/10 So, y = -a million/10 +a million = 9/10

This is not an equation as an equation reqires an = sign.

This is an expression which I think is meant to read as :-

2x^2 + 11x - 6
----------------------
x + 6

( 2 x - 1 ) ( x + 6 )
-------------------------------
x + 6

2 x - 1
2009-07-29 3:49 pm
(2x^2 + 11x - 6)/(x + 6)
= (2x^2 + 12x - x - 6)/(x + 6)
= [(2x^2 + 12x) - (x + 6)]/(x + 6)
= [2x(x + 6) - 1(x + 6)]/(x + 6)
= [(2x - 1)(x + 6)]/(x + 6)
= 2x - 1

To my knowledge of maths, this requires the long division method, to which the explanation is quite long too. But I'll try my best.

Just as you divide two numbers using the long division method, you can divide the expression 2x^2 + 11x -6 by x + 6.

First, multiplying some term by x will have to give 2x^2. That some term is 2x. Then you'll have to multiply 2x by 6 as well. So far we have found part of the quotient which is 2x. Now what comes inside the box like thing where you divide the expression in long division is the product of the quotient and the divisor, which will be 2x^2 + 12x.

Then, just like in normal long division, you subtract the above 2x^2 + 12x from the polynomial and you get -x -6. Then, see what number multiplied by x in the divisor will give -x. It'll be -1. -1 multiplied by 6 in the divisor will give -6. Got it? I hope so. Then what you get is -x -6. Again, you subtract this from the part of polynomial which you got earlier, -x -6:

-x - (-x) will be zero, and so will be -6 - (-6). So the remainder is zero. So the answer to the equation will be 2x -1.

I did my best to explain this, and I hope you understood and will benefit. One more thing. If supposing there is a remainder, then you write the answer as [quotient + (remainder / divisor).] I hope you are familiar with these terms.
