distribute the 5 and the 3

-5x-20>3x-12

now to get the variables on one side, subtract 3x from both sides

(-5x-20)-3x> (3x-12) -3x

-8x-20>-12

now add 20 from both sides

(-8x-20)+20> (-12)+20

-8x>8

now you should divide by -8, when you divide by a negative, you have to flip the inequality sign

x<-1

Start by distributing the parentheses:

-5x - 20 > 3x - 12

Subtract 3x from both sides:

-8x - 20 > -12

Add 20 to both sides:

-8x > 8

Divide both sides by -8 (and flip the sign):

x < -1

-5(x + 4) > 3(x - 4) (distribute)
-5x - 20 > 3x - 4 (add 5x to both sides)
-20 > 8x - 4 (add 4 to both sides)
-16 > 8x (divide both sides by 8)
-2 > x
x < -2 <===ANSWER

2/5x + (3x - 4)/2x > (x - 2)/3x, (x ? 0) 2/5x + (3x - 4)/2x ? (x - 2)/3x > 0 12/30x + 15(3x - 4)/30x ? 10(x - 2)/30x > 0 [12 + 15(3x - 4) - 10(x - 2)]/30x > 0 (12 + 45x - 60 - 10x + 20)/30x > 0 (35x - 28)/30x > 0 (7/30)(5x - 4)/x > 0 Dividing the two factors by using the useful 7/30: (5x - 4)/x > 0 For x ? 0, (5x - 4)/x has the comparable sign with the aid of fact the quadratic polynomial (5x - 4) x. as a result (5x - 4) x > 0 x must be exterior the era [0,4/5] x ? (-?,0) ? (4/5,?)

I won't answer this to try to get best answer, just trying to help by saying the first answerer forgot to distribute the whole thing in 3(x - 4), they changed it to 3x - 4, instead of the correct 3x - 12. 411Prep did everything correctly though. They deserve best answer.

-5(x + 4) > 3(x - 4)
-5(x) - 5(4) > 3(x) - 3(4)
-5x - 20 > 3x - 12
-5x - 3x > 20 - 12
-8x > 8
x < 8/(-8)
x < -1
