There are eight structural isomers of alcohols with the formula C5H12O
(1) CH3-CH2-CH2-CH2-CH2OH (pentan-1-ol)
(2) CH3-CH2-CH2-*CH(OH)-CH3 (pentan-2-ol)
(3) CH3-CH2-CHOH-CH2-CH3 (pentan-3-ol)

Each of (2), (4) and (4) has a chiral carbon, and thus each of them would have two enantiomers (optical isomers). If optical isomers are taken into account, there will be 11 isomeric alcohols. If you have not learnt about optical isomers, forget it.
