1. A student performed the following steps in charging a sphere.
step 1: Put an uncharged metal sphere X close to a positively charged sphere connected to a Van de Graff generator.
step2: With the presence of the positively charged sphere, she touched the metal sphere X once.
Step3: put the two spheres in contact for a while.
What will be resulted for metal sphere X?
A. Uncharged
B. Positively charged
C. Negatively charged

ans: B

The positively charged sphere attracts negative charges on the uncharged metal sphere X.

The uncharged metal sphere X is earthed and then becomes negatively charged.

Putting the two spheres in contact for a while the charges will neutralize, but the Van de Graff generator generates positive charges continuously.

Finally the uncharged metal sphere X becomes positively charged.
