"So am I" is correct.

example:
Person 1: "I'm very tired."
Person 2: "So am I. I think I'm going to bed soon."

The first one is used the most - usually in agreement to a statement/question.

If you mean it in the context of "I also am" then "So am I" is correct, but you can say "So I am" in certain contexts, e.g. "So I am going to eat my lunch now".

Just one thing - "I" is always a capital letter. So "i" is incorrect.

well it depends on the context.... "so am i" is used if you are implying that you are something also, whereas "so i am" is more of a statement...

eg.
person 1 - you're lost
person 2 - so i am!
