"Brian" has no clue what he is talking about.

The Highlander Hybrid's battery pack has an 8-year / 100,000-mile warranty. It does NOT wear out in 5 years, otherwise Toyota would already have gone bankrupt with all of the warranty replacements on the 1.5 million hybrid cars they have sold.

And if you bought and registered the car in CA, NY, NJ, MA, CT, VT, ME and RI, the battery warranty is automatically extended to 10 years / 150,000 miles.

The warranty is prorated-- If you bought the car with 38K miles on it, the CARB-state warranty still have you covered for 112K miles. If the battery fails during the warranty period through no fault of your own, replacement is FREE.

That "you have to replace the batterys every 5 years for thousands" mythical crap is getting REALLY old.

Anytime you hear anyone say garbage like that about the hybrid battery, you know right off the bat the guy knows ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about hybrids.

Fact is, Toyota hybrids cost LESS to maintain than regular cars.

Always Japanese. Better resell value and come on, it is Toyota.

Korean cars are crap.

the kia minivan is actually a pretty decent vehicle. the koreans have actually come a long way from the vehicles of yore. and i believe the warranty is transferrable, so you will have a nice warranty to boot. the highlander is just simply a product of toyota's legendary reliablilty, though the newer trucks are not as good as the ones from a few years before. and you also have to factor in the cost of the battery pack on the highlander when it wears out in about 5 years if you have the vehicle that long. last i checked, a replacement li-ion battery pack will run you at least $3000 when you have to replace it.

either one is a good choice. i would prolly opt for the kia, though. better warranty and not having to put up with the hassle of the hybrid equipment is a plus.
