That's the opinion belonging to the old school. It is perfectly acceptable to use "a staff" in today's writings, there is no need to insist on saying " a staff member".

According to the Oxford Intermediate Learner's English Chinese Dictionary,
We use a member of staff to talk about one person who works for an organization but not a staff.

So how come you said that a staff is acceptable?

Next time,when you want to argue something with others, please check the dictionary before you do so.

買家 = merchandiser

"staff" has never been used as a singular noun, neither in old nor modern English.

We cannot ignore an existing grammar rule and simply classify it as "old school" language.
