If two things are multiplied by each other, and the answer is ZERO, then logically either one, the other, or both of those things MUST be zero.

Therefore, (x+5)=0 OR (7x-4)=0

This is the correct answer to what you asked. Some people above solved for x, but that wasn't what the question asked.

If (x+5)(7x-4)=0, then (x+5)=0 or (7x-4)=0

The only way to get zero when multiplying 2 things together is for one of them to be zero (or both)

--> x = -5, x = 4/7

( x + 5 ) = 0 , (7 x - 4 ) = 0

x = - 5 , x = 4 / 7
2009-07-14 4:03 pm
(x+5)=0
(7x-4)=0

So x= -5 and 4/7

x+5=0
x= -5

7x-4=0
7x=4
x=4/7

just simply equate the 2 factor to 0,
x+5=0
7x-4=0

to get the zer0s,
transp0se the constant to the right part of equation, and change the sign,

x=-5

7x=4, divide both by 7,
x=4/7.

(x + 5) X (7x - 4) = 0?
If the product of two factors is zero
then either x+ 5 = 0 or 7x - 4 = 0
solving each gives x = -5 and x = 4/7

I hope this helps

x+5 =0 or 7x-4 = 0
2009-07-14 12:19 pm
anything multiplied by 0 equals 0 so either
x + 5 = 0
or
7x - 4 = 0

x + 5 = 0 --> x = -5

7x - 4 = 0 --> 7x = 4 --> x = 7/4
2009-07-14 12:15 pm
If (x+5)(7x-4)=0, then either x+5=0 or 7x-4=0
either x= -5 or 7x=4
either x= -5 or x=4/7
