We should not surrender to anything or anyone. Surrendering amounts to defeat and giving up. When we are trying to achieve something and we give up we are surrendering to failure. One should never give up.

Questioning the surrender is hindrance to devotion !

If you have recognized that "I" or "self" is nothing but the representative of that omnipresent God, U can surrender before any of them.
But still "I" is present in ur thoughts(Mann), we should totally surrender ourselves in front of God.Only then he will remove the distinctive mentality and there will be no difference between u and Him.
