To factor y^2+6y, take out of the parenthesis the common term or factor which is y. So, y(y+6). Get it?

y ( y + 6 )

y^2 + 6y
= y(y) + y(6)
= y(y + 6)

=y(y+6)

y(y+6)=0
y=0 or y=-6

fits of all in factoring u look for a common letter or number
in this case its y so take it out so it looks like
y(y+6)
check if u multiply u get the same answer
y*y+6*y=y^2+6y

Like this:

y(y+6)=0

so then y=0 and y=-6

y(y+6)
