Help subtracting fractions?

Similar to adding fractions, you have to have like denominators in order to do it.

So first, find the LCD:

45 = 3² * 5
35 = 5 * 7
------------------
LCD = 3² * 5 * 7 = 315

So re-work the fractions so that 315 is the denominator of both:

266/315 - 99/315

Now that the denominators are the same, simply subtract the numerators:

(266 - 99) / 315
167/315

That cannot be reduced any further, so it's your answer.

you just find a common denominator for both of the fractions. then multiply the numerator by the same number you multiplied the denominator by. Then subtract.

38/45 is equal to 1330/1575.

11/35 is equal to 495/1575.

1330/1575 - 495/1575 equals 835/1575.

38/45 - 11/35
= (38 x 7)/(45 x 7) - (11 x 9)/(35 x 9)
= 266/315 - 99/315
= 167/315
