so when you are solving that type of a problem, you always start of by reading the question: what is it looking for?
in this case, the problem wants you to look for the variable t, in which that mult. by 1/4, and then added to 2/3 yields 1/3.
so in these problems, you start off by isolating the t
here goes:
2/3+1/4t=1/3
now lets move over the 2/3 to get the 1/4 and the variable t alone
2/3+1/4t=1/3 => 1/4t = 1/3 -2/3
now we simply simplify it (in other words lets subtract)
1/4t = 1/3 -2/3 => 1/4t = -(negative)1/3
okay so we have 1/4t = -1/3
now we need to get t alone (to solve the problem)
just mult. on both sides by 4 (to get rid of the 1/4) we do this because a) we need to get t alone, and b) whatever you do to one side must be done to the other (subtract, add, mult, so on..)
(4)1/4t = -1/3 (4)
the 4s cancel and you are left with
t = -4/3.
but in some cases (maybe super duper harder math, calc and all) they might give you trick answers nad all, os always check your work
2/3+1/4t=1/3
know t= -4/3, no just plug in t to the equation
2/3+1/4 (-4/3)=1/3
2/3 - 4/12 = 1/3
8/12 - 4/12 =1/3
4/12 = 1/3
1/3 = 1/3
voila, there you go! hope this helps
