The original price of the dress

616 ÷ (1 - 30%) ÷ (1 - 20%)
= 616 ÷ 0.7 ÷ 0.8
= $1100
= D

answer is D

because

(616+616*20%)+(616+616*20%*30%)

=1100

30%and than20%sale=44%sale

the original price of the dress is:

616÷(1-44%)

=616÷56%

=1100

So D. is correct.

Let the original price of the dress be y.

(1-30%)y * (1-20%)= 616

70%y*80%= 616

70%y= 616/80%

70%y=770

y=770/70%

y=1100

The original price of the dress is $1100.(D.)
