divide 3 and 18 by 3
you get x+2=18. subtract 2 from both sides and u get x=4.

or u could multiply everything by 3 which is called the distributive property.

after u multiply you would get 3x+6=18. subtract 6 and u get 3x=12. divide by three and u get x=4.

METHOD 1
x + 2 = 6
x = 4

METHOD 2
3 x + 6 = 18
3 x = 12
x = 4

3(x + 2) = 18
3x + 6 = 18
3x = 12
x = 4.

ok well you can solve it a couple different ways. im not very good at explaining because when i explain people jsut seem to get lost. and im very sorry.. :( but maybe you'll be able to tell what im doing on each line.. or maybe i will explain a little. lol

way #1:
3(x+2)=18 original problem
3x+6=18 distribute the 3 to the x and 2. and the 3 and 2 are multiplied
3x=12 subtract 6 from both sides to start getting the x by itself
x=4 divide both sides by 3 to get x by itself.

way #2:
3(x+2)=18 orginal problem
x+2=6 divide both sides by 3 (since you are supposed to multiply the 3, you do the opposite in this situation.)
x=4 subtract the 2. again its all about the opposite of what it says to do..

idk i tried to make it not as confusing as usual but explain it enough that you still get how to do it. :)

hope i helped!

3(x+2)=18...
first, you need to distribute the 3 to the x and the 2 in the parenthesis

like this
3x+6=18

3*x=3x and 3*2=6

then you subtract 6 from both sides of the equation to isolate the variable

3x+6=18
-6 -6

then you are left with 3x=12
now just divide both sides by three

3x=12
----------
3

and you are left with x=4.

3(x+2)=18.

well 3 is multiplied by x+2 x is any number but added to 2 will make a number multiplied by 3 into 18 the separation is for multiplying.

example.

3 multiplied to x+2= 18

figure out what number is x.

x+2

4+2

3 (x+2)=18.

3 (4+2)=18

3(x+2)=18.

First step is to distribute the three into the brackets. Basically, you multiply the 3 by the x and the + 2. It looks like this:

3x + 6 = 18

Now, you combine the like terms. In this case, the 6 and the 18 are alike. Move the 6 to the other side to combine them. It looks like this:

3x = 18 - 6
3x = 12

Now to get the x by itself you divide by 3 on both sides.

3x/3 = 12/3
x = 4

Therefore, 4 is your answer!

divide each side by 3 then you will have

x+2=6 which is obviously 4

check your work and you will see that 3(4+2) will equal 18

You distribute it: so
(3 times X, + 3 times 2) = 18
3x + 6 = 18
Then you get rid of the six, so subtract six from both sides
which equals
3x = 12
x=4

:)

Divide both sides by 3 to get rid of the 3 on the side of the bracket.
This will give you...
x+2 = 6 (18/3 is 6... that's where the 6 comes from)
Subtract 2 from each side to leave you with x.
x = 4
That's how you do it!
