How are these...

1) Continental Army formed (1775) - Created the first army of the united colonies directly in opposition to the Crown's armies. The Appointment of Washington as C.I.C. was concurrently as important, as he was the glue that held the CA together for 8 years.
2) The Declaration of Independence (1776) - America formally severs ties with the Crown. Though it would take until 1778 before France would formally recognize the USA, enter the AWI, and make it a Global War...America finally changed it's purposes for war from favorable reconciliation with Britain to full Independence.
3) The Treaty of Paris (1783) - Ends the AWI in America's favor with formal recognition of its sovereignty by the Crown.
4) Shays' Rebellion (1786) - Tested power of federal gov't, showed how weak it really was, and led directly to the Constitutional Convention of 1787.
