Since you have x's on both sides of the equation, you can move them to one side. Since you have more on the right side, move 6x to the right side by subtracting 6x from both sides.

6x + 60 = 24x
-6x -6x
____________
60 = 18x

Now divide both sides by 18 and you will get x = 60/18. Reduce by dividing the top and bottom by 6 and you'll have x = 10/3 or 3 1/3.

6x + 60 = 24x
It's an equality so what you do to one side you must do to the other:

6x + 60 = 24x
6x + 60 -6x = 24x -6x
60 = 18x
18x = 60
18x/18 = 60/18
x = 10/3

6X+60=24X
1) 60=24X-6X
2) 60=18X
3) 60/18=18X/18
4) 10/3=X
5) 3.33333or10/3=X

6x + 60 = 24x
6x - 24x = -60
-18x = -60
x = -60/(-18)
x = 10/3

x= 10/3
2009-06-27 8:18 am
6x + 60 = 24x
60 = 24x - 6x
60 = 18x
18x = 60
x = 60 / 18
x = 3.333 ( approx. )
2009-06-27 8:12 am
6x + 60 = 24x
6x - 24x + 60 = 0
-18x = -60
x = 3.3333333
2009-06-27 8:12 am
60=24x-6x
60=18x
x=60/18
x=10/3
2009-06-27 8:11 am
18 x = 60

3 x = 10

x = 10 / 3
