Offense
Quarterback - Throws the ball and is made mvp when his receivers do everything.
Halfback - Runs the ball, in pass plays can either run a route or block, don't do it if you've never played before.
Fullback - Runs in front of the HB blocking for him and every now and then will run it himself or run a route on a pass.
Tight end - Blocks or runs a route.
Offensive Linemen - Blocks.
Wide Receiver - Runs routes on pass plays then catches it and runs by the defense for a touchdown and is humble enough to give the qb the game ball. And you can block if you want to on runs.

Defense
Defensive Linemen - Gets to the quarterback and doesn't let the hb through the line on runs.
Linebacker - Kill whoever has the ball.
Cornerback - Cover the wide receiver so they don't get the ball and pretend to try and stop the run.
Free Safety - Stand behind everyone and catch it if the ever comes your way.
Strong Safety - Kill whoever has the ball.

Play Madden and watch some games if you want to learn better. Watch a Steve Smith highlight reel on youtube if you want to do receiver which is the easiest for just starting.

LOL XD. Yeah, you should probably just watch a few games. CBS and Fox have games starting the first Thursday after Labor Day for 17 weeks on Sundays.

Go buy Madden 09 and play after a couple games you will know.

The game is real simple if you are on Offense which is when you start with the ball you either get the ball and run with it towards the other teams goal without getting tackled or block for the person with the ball.

If you are in Defense you try and get to the ball as fast as you can and tackle the person with it. Or if it is in the air you try and take it.
