Seriously, it doesn't taste very good, and has a tough texture. I'm willing to bet that, aside from necessity in some circumstances, many do it just for the experience.

It is a readily available form of meat.
Actually, centuries ago, Asians only eat dog and lamb in the winter times. These types of meat are considered "extremely warm" and are not eaten during summer times. Back then, they were eaten due to circumstances (not everyone has access to beef, pork, chicken, etc.) Then when it was banned, it became a delicacy. Yes, eating dogs has been illegal in many Asian countries for many years now. So you're right, many do it now just for the experience, but then again, there are still many rural places in Asia that don't get beef, pork or chicken. In order to survive, the people will have to eat anything they find. Not every country is fortunate enough to have over half their population overweight and tons of food thrown away everyday.
People gota eat man! Not every country has an excess of cows they need to get rid of.
It is considered good for, I kid you not, "man health." Apparently, it is good for stamina and virility during the hot summer months. (So, yeah... nature's Viagara or something.) I'd say that lots of tourists who eat it do so mostly for the experience and so they can say that they did. I would not presume that about natives for whom dog meat is an acceptable and "normal" cultural experience.
Keep in mind as well that you probably have a different idea of what tastes good than others. Tons of people really HATE kimchi, but Koreans honestly love it. Eating it isn't just habit, they enjoy the stuff. The same goes for our cheese. I happen to love cheese, but I know plenty of people who think it tastes funny and has a bad texture.
One person's personal opinion about a food certainly isn't the only one.
Your not cooking your dog right if its tough, lol.I lived in Japan for a yr and What I got was good,I also ate monkey, squid and octopus.Octopus is terrible so is squid. You just got to get over what you r eating, and not think about it,I base things on how they taste. Also if its ok to eat a cow then it should be ok to eat a horse, unless they taste bad,I'd try some if it was fresh
If you didn't like it it wasn't prepared right!
How much sense does it really make to eat cows and pigs, but not eat dogs, cats, goats, horses, whales, etc., etc., etc...?
Eating dog meat is very rare in Korea nowadays, since it's illegal.
People who used to eat it a long time ago probably ate it because they couldn't afford or find any other meat, not because they wanted to. According to my relatives, they didn't enjoy it very much, but they got the meat for free and didn't want to waste it.
No, even with 70% dark, a single bar will do nothing in a dog that large. Do CALL your vet, though and ask the same question: you'll feel better about it. And remember, grain alcolhol is toxic to humans but we can sure drink a lot of beer without dying. Chocolate is only mildly toxic to dogs.
i think this is a sterotype, not all asians eat dog meat but yea. For the ones that do its because its an available form of meat, and plus if your poor your poor, you will eat w/e.
參考: half asian :)
I'm guessing unlike here in America they probably do not have many animal shelters, so eating dog meat probably is a form of population control.
