Subtract 8 from both sides to get :

x+8-8 > -3-8
which gives you :

x > -11

x + 8 > -3
x > -3 - 8

change the > sign to and = sign then add 3 move the x to the opposite side then you get 11= -x since you cant have a negative x switch it and then you get x=-11 change the =sign back and you get

x>-11

If x+8 >-3
X>-3-8
x>-11

Just pretend that the ">" is an equals sign.

Therefore:

x + 8 > -3
x + 8 = -3
x = -11

Then you check it by substituting your answer. So...

x + 8 > -3
11 + 8 > -3
19 > -3

Because 19 is greater than -3, you know your answer (11) is right.

move 8 to the other side with the opposite sign
x> -3-8
x> -11
2009-06-24 11:54 pm
subtract 8 from both sides. you will get x>-11
2009-06-24 11:54 pm
x>-11

method: change > into equals so it would be x+8=-3 and work it out like any other sum. x=-8-3 = 11 and replace = with >

hope that helps xD
