this question is impossible

why do you put letters into math. there are no letters in math, it is only numbers

i do not understand this at all

The answer above me is perfectly correct, but you can do it another way as well. Since the denominators are the same, you can combine the two fractions on the left hand side first: (3/y) + (7/y) = 5 (3 + 7)/y = 5 (10/y) = 5 Then multiply through by y: (10/y)*y = 5y 10 = 5y Now divide both sides by 5: 10/5 = y 2 = y

5/w = 8/w - 1/5
5/w - 8/w = -1/5
-3/w = -1/5
-3 = w(-1/5)
-3 = -w/5
-w = -3(5)
w = -15/(-1)
w = 15

5/w = 8/w - 1/5
5/w - 8/w = - 1/5
- 3/w = - 1/5
By cancelling - sign on both sides and by cross multiplication we get
w = 15

Hi, I'll solve it step-by-step.
(x represents multiplication)

5/w=8/w-1/5
1/5=8-5/w
1/5=3/w
1xw/5=3
w/5=3
w=3x5
w=15
HOPE THIS HELPS!!!!!!!!!!!!

5/w- 8/w = -1/5
-3/w = -1/5
3/w =1/5
15 = w

5/w = 8/w - 1/5
1/5 = 8/w - 5/w
1/5 = 3/w
Cross multiply
w * 1= 5 * 3
w = 15

5/w = 8/w - 1/5:

Subtract 8/w from both sides...so it essentially on one side its 5-8 (but the w remains):

-3/w = -1/5

Multiply both sides by 5 to get:

-15/w = -1

Multiply both sides by w. The -1 is replaced by the w (which thus becomes negative):

-15 = -w

Multiply both sides by -1:

15 = w

15 because

5/w-8/w

3/w=-1/5 --> reciprical = w/3=-5/1

w=15/1

5/w = 8/w - 1/5
Lets start by getting the w out of the denominators. Multiply both sides by w:
5 = 8 - w/5
No subtract 8 from both sides:
-3 = -w/5
Lastly, multiply both sides by -5:
15 = w

5=8-w/5
25=30-w
w=5
