(u-7)^2-50=0
Add 50: (u-7)^2 = 50
Sq Roots: u-7 = (+ or -) sqrt(50)
Add 7: u = 7 (+ or -) sqrt(50)

Since sqrt(50) = sqrt(25 * 2) = 5 sqrt(2), we can rewrite the solutions:

x = 7 + 2 sqrt(5), 7 - 2 sqrt(5).

(u - 7)^2 - 50 = 0
(u - 7)^2 = 50
u - 7 = ±√50
u - 7 = ±√(5^2 * 2)
u - 7 = ±5√2
u = 7 ±5√2

7+/-5sqrt2

{{u == 7 - 5 Sqrt[2]}, {u == 7 + 5 Sqrt[2]}}

Its either prime or you will have to use the perfect square formula

(u-7)^2 becomes (u-7)(u-7) which equals u^2-14u+49
therefore you have u^2-14u+49-50=0 combine 49-50=-1

u^2-14u-1 is not factorable
