hi,

When we use "if any" in our writitng, is it polite and friendly, or not?

"if any" can either be polite or impolite, depending on what that "any" represents. The phrase "if any" implies that the addressee doesn't have "any" of the item which is usually spelled out before the "if any" statement. Therefore, if the item referred to is a good thing, then the "if any" statement is impolite. If it is however, a bad thing, then the "if any" statement is polite. For example : (1) Polite: "You can still submit your correction, if any, before next Friday". If I imply that you don't need to make any correction, that'll be polite. (2) Impolite: "You could use your imagination, if any, to make the story more interesting". If I imply that you don't have any imagination, that'll be rude.
