substitute the value of y from first eqn, into the second.

3x + 4x - 1 = 6
=>x = 1.

now put this value of x in any of the 2 eqns. u get y=3.

so the final soln. is x=1, y=3

Solve by using substitution.
y = (4x - 1) ...... (1)
3x + y = 6

3x + y = 6

Substitute (1) for y.
3x + (4x - 1) = 6
3x + 4x - 1 = 6
7x = 6 + 1
x = 7/7
x = 1

y = 4x - 1

Substitute 1 for x.
y = 4(1) - 1
y = 4 - 1
y = 3

Hence, x = 1 and y = 3.

Well, since it is a system of equations, you can arrange them to standard form for us to be able to use the elimination method.

-4x + y = -1
3x + y = 6

We could simply eliminate y first by subtracting the second equation from the first equation:

Now we'll have

-7x = -7 --> what we can do is solve for x.
----- ----
-7 -7

so x = 1; substitute this to one of the original equation.

y = 4x - 1
y = 4(1) - 1
y = 4 - 1
y = 3

so that's it. x = 1 and y = 3.

Hope this helps. =)

Okay so you know that y equals 4x -1 so you plug that into the other equation which is 3x + y = 6.
You then get 3x + ( 4x -1) = 6
Then you add 3x and 4x to get 7x and move the one to the other side and you now have 7x = 7.
You then divide the seven over and now x = 1. That is one of your answers.
Now you plug the one in for x in the y = 4x -1 equation.
So now you get y = 3.
So your final answers are x = 1 and y = 3.
Hope this helps.

7x - 1 = 6
7x = 7
x = 1
y = 3

y = 4x - 1
y = 6 - 3x

For the second one, I just moved 3x to the other side, thus solving for y to make things look nicer to start.

Let's take the first equation, y = 4x - 1. If we solve the second equation for x we get x = 2 - (1/3)y

Now that you know what x is (2 - (1/3)y) plug that into the first equation and solve for y

y = 4(2 - (1/3)y) - 1
y = 8 - (4/3)y - 1
y + (4/3)y = 7
y(1 + 4/3) = 7
y(7/3) = 7

y = 3

now that you know that y equals 3, plug it back into the first equation to find out what x must equal

From:

y = 4x - 1
3 = 4x - 1
4x = 4

x = 1

so y = 3 and x = 1

You know that y = 4x-1. So, jsut plug that "y" into the 2nd equation!

3x + (4x-1) = 6

7x - 1 = 6

7x = 7

x = 1

Now you know what x is, to find y all you would have to do is plug it into one of the two equations(it doesn't matter, because both of the equations are the same).

y = 4(1) - 1 = 3

or

3(1) + y = 6
y = 3

So x=1, y =3

Bored. (and thinking.)
y= 4x-1
y= -3x +6

-3x+6= 4x-1

-7x=-7
x=1
if x=1, then y= 4(1)-1= 3.

x=1, y=3
