I know you have to find LCM, and then I think you use it to make them into whole numbers? Help!

3/w = 8/w - 1/11
1/11 = (8 - 3)/w
w = 11(55)
w = 55

Answer: w = 55

Proof:
3/55 = 8/55 - 1/11
3/55 = 8/55 - 5/55
3/55 = 3/55

I would not mess with LCM.

You can just multiply all terms by w. You get:

3 = 8 - w/11

Continue to reduce:

w/11 = 8 - 3 = 5
w = 55

Plug that back into your problem, and it checks out:

3/55 = 8/55 - 1/11

(equivalent to)

3/55 = 8/55 - 5/55.

Does that work?

3/w = 8/w - 1/11
3/w - 8/w = -1/11
-5/w = -1/11
w = -5/(-1/11)
w = -5(-11/1)
w = 55

33 = 88 - w
w = 55

multiply the eqn by w:

3 = 8 - w/11

w/11 = 8 - 3 = 5

w = 55
