It is better for you to bring along your passport in case you need it to prove who you are and where you are from.

As for your HKID card, it is better for you to bring it along as well. I think it's always the safest to bring them with you, rather than leave it alone at your hotel rooms. Also, I believe it is more convenient to keep your HKID card WITH your passport. Try not to place them separately.
