I would change your sentence to " past tense".

The other girls CLUSTERED.......................................................

How to use " either"?

1) Either your teacher or you should come to my meeting.

( Your teacher or you ( either one) should come to my meeting.)


2) You are advised to take either path.

Path A or Path B ( two paths)<----- You can choose either one.

3) " either" can also be used in short answers.


A: I do not like apples.

B: I do not like apples EITHER. I do not like.... ( negative)


A: I like apples.

B: I like apples, too. <------------ I like .......( positive)


4) Trees are on either side of the road.


On either side of the road= Trees are on both sides of the road.

5) When you have two choices, you may use " either" as well.


Example:


You may either watch TV or do your homework in my house.

either可以解：（兩者中）的每一方，如：

他兩手各拿一個提袋。

所以，on either side of me，即在你左右兩面

全句：The other girls clusteres , gossiping excitedly, on either side of me.　
其他的女孩，聚集成群地在我左右兩邊，興奮地說閒話
