rewrite y=x^2-12x+32 in the form y=a(x-h)^2+k

Complete the square on x^2 - 12x: Half of -12 squared = (-6)^2 = 36.

So, we add and subtract this as follows:
y=x^2-12x+32 = (x^2-12x+ 36) + 32 - 36
y= (x-6)^2 - 4.

y = ( x - 6 ) ² - 4

y = x^2 - 6x - 6x + 36 + 32 - 36
y = (x^2 - 6x) - (6x - 36) - 4
y = x(x - 6) - 6(x - 6) - 4

y = (x - 6)^2 - 4

a = 1
h = 6
k = -4
