In a certain card game consisting of an ordinary deck of playing cards, a person draws a card from the deck and wins $50 if he gets a spade Ace, $30 if he gets one of the remaining Aces, $20 if he gets a face card, and $5 if he gets a card numbered 2 through 10. (7marks)

a) Determine the cost of the game at which the house will break even. (6marks)

b) If the house set the price at $20 per game, how much on the average will he be able to win per game? (1marks)

a) There are 1 spade Ace , 3 remaining Aces , 12 face cards and 36
numberes 2 through 10 cards.(Total 52 cards)
The break even cost =
$ (1*50 + 3*30 + 12*20 + 36*5) / 52
= $ 140 / 13
b) He be able to win only if he get Aces,
the probability to get Aces = 4 / 52 = 1/13
So he only have the probability 1/13 to win per game.
